NUS Arts Festival 2007: 25 Years of Genus!
Details: The guitar has been a source of soothing, inspirational, rhythmic and sentimental music for the past two centuries. This year, the NUS Guitar Ensemble is proud to present this versatile instrument in its annual concert “25 years of GENUS!”
In this concert, GENUS celebrates 25 years of music making. The repertoire features an original work by Mr. Alex Abisheganaden, and transcriptions of works by J.S Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Modest Mussorgsky. Highlights of the concert include Violin Concerto in E Major, excerpts from Pictures at an Exhibition and Huan Ying-Vanakam. These will be accompanied by Brazilian Street Dance, a Latin music with strong samba influence, and Spanish dance music Banderas. This concert also features some of the Ensemble’s finest musicians in various quartets and other small groups to further dramatise the tonal subtleties the guitar has to offer. The collaboration with other instruments such as Accordion and Erhu adds different tonal colours to the guitar orchestra. The music director of GENUS, Dr Robert Casteels, is a distinguished conductor, composer and educator. Under his professional guidance, this performance will be a most interesting and enjoyable one. |
Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.
